May is the month which sends fly anglers into a frenzy, as they eagerly await that call from a friend or colleague with those magic words "the fly is up". The waiting is over, floods of memories come to mind of the trout hooked, lost and landed over a lifetime of angling on this wonder of entomology...The Mayfly.
On the rivers fly life is in abundance with the Iron Blue Dun predominant in the early weeks of the month and the Mayfly in the latter weeks. Throughout the month there are also plentiful hatches of Olives, Chironomids and Sedges with the Grey Flag being an essential addition to the angler's cast during the evening rise.
On the lakes, when the trout aren't gorging themselves on the Mayfly, Lake Olives, Claret Dun's, Chironomids and the Freshwater Shrimp are all on the menu throughout the month of May.
